Preventive Dental Treatment

Preventive Dental Treatment

Northern Beaches Children’s Dentistry is a part of Park St Dental Practice which is focused on children’s preventive dental treatment to develop a healthy and caries-free dentition and oral environment. Adopting healthy oral hygiene habit and diet is among our basic goals in paediatric dentistry.

  • Brushing

Brushing can be fun, and your child teeth should be cleaned as soon as the first tooth arrives. When a baby’s tooth erupts, parents should brush the tooth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. For children younger than six years of age, direct supervision and help of parents during the brushing is a must. Good oral hygiene and regular brushing habit should be established from a very young age. Brushing is one of the most important preventive measures in children.

  • Regular Dental Check Up

Regular dental check up and clean is another preventive dental treatment in children and adults. Tooth caries or decay is caused by sugars left in the mouth that turn into an acid, which can break down the teeth structure. Children are at high risk for tooth decay for a simple reason: many children and adolescents do not practice regular, good oral hygiene habits and most of them eat and drink lots of sugary snacks. Proper brushing and flossing, low sugary diet combined with regular dental visits help keep tooth decay away.

Your child should visit the dentist every six months for a regular dental check-up and clean.

  • Fluoride Treatment

We, at Northern Beaches Children’s Dentistry recommend fluoride treatments twice a year along with cleaning to keep the teeth strong. Proper fluoride therapy of the teeth by a dental practitioner forms an important part of preventive dental treatment in children and adolescents.

  • Fissure Sealant

Tooth sealants are highly recommended for children and teenagers. Fissure sealant seals the deep grooves in your child’s teeth, preventing decay from forming in these hard-to-reach areas. Sealants last for several years but will be monitored at your child’s regular checkups. The best time for applying the sealant is soon after the permanent teeth are fully erupted. Fissure seal is an easy and pain- free preventive dental treatment for children and adolescents; it is extremely effective in prevention of tooth decay.
