Northern Beaches Children’s Dentistry/ Park St Dental Practice, in Mona Vale is equipped with child friendly and low-dose xrays, OPG and 3D imaging for radiographic examination.
At Northern Beaches Children’s Dentistry, we perform the radiographic examination to see between and inside the teeth and jaw bone. The radiographic examination (x-rays or CT Scan) is used to see the tooth and jaw structure blow the gum line. In children, the xrays or CT Scan are used for detection of various issues:
- Dental cavities and the extent of the problem
- Dental defects and the extent of the condition
- Detecting the cause of pain
- The presence and absence of permanent teeth
- Orthodontic assessment and if braces are needed
- Jaw and bone irregularities
- Teeth roots irregularities
- Cysts, abscess and tumors
- impacted teeth
Depends on the area or type of concern; various xray methods can be considered. A simple intra-oral xray might be completely enough to address the concerns associated with a single tooth problem while OPG provides a complete 2D scan of the teeth, gum , jaw bone, jaw joint and sinus areas. When a three dimensional image is needed, for example for impacted teeth, CT scan might be the proper option.
When the xray exposure is a matter of concern, xray-free caries and cracks detection device (DIAGNOcam) may be used for detection of the dental issues like caries (decay), cracks, dental structure defects or filling defects.
Combination of radiographic examination and clinical examination will help the practitioner to detect the problem, suggest the best treatment option and achieve the best dental treatment.
